        1. COVID-19 Information and Resources

中国体彩官方app / About / COVID-19 Information and Resources

As a community solely committed to healthcare and healthcare education, Midwestern University has been carefully monitoring and evaluating the situation regarding the novel (new) coronavirus, which causes an illness known as COVID-19. When worldwide health crises like this emerge, healthcare providers are on the front lines in caring for their patients and making decisions for their community. For many years, our academic and administrative leadership has been planning and preparing to face situations like the one we all face today. Our team approach has been focused on the health and safety of our students, our faculty and staff, our patients, and our community. Midwestern University’s campuses will remain open as we continue our mission of educating tomorrow’s healthcare team. Likewise, our clinics remain open to provide exceptional care to the many patients who depend on us.

During challenging times, the Midwestern University academic family has always come together to pursue our mission of meeting the needs of the healthcare community. As the circumstances of the coronavirus pandemic continue to evolve, we will carefully monitor the CDC recommendations and continually evaluate and assess our plans. Our priority is always the health and safety of every member of our campus community as well as the patients we serve today and in the future. For more information, please see the sections below.

          General Information

What is novel coronavirus and COVID-19?

A novel coronavirus is a new coronavirus that has not been previously identified. The disease caused by this virus is COVID-19. Since the public health emergency was first declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) in January 中国体彩官方app, we have learned much about this particular virus and how other countries around the globe have managed the situation. The primary symptoms of this disease are fever, cough, and shortness of breath. While most healthy people who have been infected have experienced mild, flu-like symptoms, the elderly and those with underlying health conditions (such as heart or lung disease, diabetes, an immune deficiency, or cancer) are at much higher risk of developing more serious and, in some cases fatal, illnesses. Since this is a new virus, there is currently no vaccine and none of us have any pre-existing immunity.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has established guidelines and recommendations for the management of this coronavirus outbreak. All of us need to practice good hygiene, including careful handwashing with soap and hot water (or hand sanitizer), not touching our faces, coughing into a tissue or a sleeve, disinfecting all common areas, and staying 中国体彩官方app when we are sick. To keep others in our community healthy, we should avoid large crowds, limit nonessential travel, and practice social distancing. We should also have a plan and necessary supplies if we get sick or come into contact with someone who is sick and need to self-quarantine. According to the CDC, the immediate risk of being exposed to this virus for most Americans is still low.

For more information, visit the CDC web site at:

          Is Midwestern University open?

Yes, our campuses remain open. Effective Monday, March 16, we are transitioning our lecture courses to an online learning environment. Students are being divided into smaller groups for any lab experiences. Plans are underway to make exams accessible online.

What are you doing to prevent the spread of the virus?

All campus facilities are cleaned and sanitized daily, with our buildings utilizing 100% outside airflow to maintain a healthy environment. We will temporarily reduce extended evening hours for certain buildings to allow for more extensive cleaning of labs and other high-use areas.
